I am writing this as reflection of what has happened during the last week (March 26-30). Had I been thinking clearly, I would not have scheduled so many things during one week. Tuesday (27th) was the Mid-Semester Concert. All three groups performed their repertoire and came together as one choir to do some collaborative things. Wednesday was the day the items from our spring fundraiser came in. Can you say CHAOS!!!! Thursday was MPA day. Two groups, One Voice (treble ensemble) and Omega (mixed ensemble), along with four soloists traveled to Sandhills Community College for Solo and Small Ensemble Festival. As you can see, last week was very busy. Last week was also very fulfilling. For some students, it was time for their first concert of the year. Some students not only had a concert, they had their first adjudicated performance.
I am very proud of my students (although sometimes I am not good at telling them that). Last week was busy and my students weathered that storm well. Our concert was a truly amazing concert. All groups did extremely well and sounded wonderful. There was a larger than normal audience attendance and all groups were received well. Everyone who went to MPA received a Superior rating. Everyone. I am a very fortunate teacher because I teach in a school where music (instrumental and vocal) matters. It has high value in the life of the student, the faculty, the parents, and the community. I can't think of a place where I would rather teach than at Cape Fear High School.
